Introducing the SkyHR People Data API
We’ve just released something that quietly changes what SkyHR can do.
The new People Data API gives you direct, secure access to your employee data, so you can connect SkyHR to your wider tech stack, build internal tools, and get more value from the information you already hold.
It’s available now, included as part of your standard SkyHR licence.
A Clearer Picture of Your People
At its core, the API gives you a structured view of your workforce.
You can access everything from core employee details and employment history through to salary, tax information, absence records, and even the more human side of work, like peer feedback and kudos. On top of that, you can also pull in employee assets, such as IT equipment, and track goals over time.
What this creates is more than just a dataset. It’s a joined-up picture of each employee’s journey, contribution, and experience within your business.
Example 1: Payroll Integration
If you’ve ever had to keep your HR system and payroll provider aligned, you’ll know how quickly things can become messy.
Whether you’re using something like Sage or Xero, there’s usually a layer of manual work involved. Exporting spreadsheets, rekeying data, double-checking figures, and fixing the inevitable discrepancies.
The API removes that friction.
Instead of manually moving data around, you can connect your payroll system directly to SkyHR and pull exactly what you need. Employee details, salary, and tax information can all flow from a single source of truth.
The difference is immediate. Less admin, fewer errors, and far more confidence that what’s in payroll actually reflects reality.
From a setup point of view, it’s deliberately simple. You generate an API key in SkyHR, decide how long it should remain active, and connect your system. There’s no extra licensing, no upgrade required, and no complicated onboarding process.
Example 2: Turning People Data into Insight
Most businesses sit on a lot of HR data, but very little of it is used in a meaningful way.
With the API, it becomes much easier to change that.
Imagine pulling together employee goals, feedback, kudos, absence patterns, and employment history into a single dashboard. Suddenly, you’re not just tracking what’s happened, you’re starting to understand why.
You can begin to spot patterns across teams, identify who is consistently adding value, and highlight areas where support might be needed. It also opens the door to using AI tools to summarise performance, suggest development plans, or flag potential risks early.
Because the data is already structured and accessible in one place, you’re not spending time stitching things together. You’re spending time using it.
Simple, Secure Access
Access to the API is controlled entirely by you.
API keys can be created within SkyHR in seconds, with the option to set an expiry date or revoke access at any time. That means you can confidently connect external systems or tools, knowing you stay in control.
Right now, all endpoints are read-only. That makes the API ideal for reporting, integrations, and analytics without any risk of external systems changing your data.
What’s Coming Next?
This is just the first phase.
In the future, we’ll be introducing the ability to update records via the API. That will allow other systems to not just read from SkyHR, but interact with it, opening up deeper automation and more advanced workflows.
Check It Out
This release is about more than adding an API.
It’s about making SkyHR part of a wider ecosystem, where your people data isn’t locked away in one system, but actively supports how your business runs.
If your mission and values are meant to guide how your company operates, your systems need to support that. The People Data API is a step towards making that possible by giving you the flexibility to build, connect, and act on the data that really matters.
If you’re already using SkyHR, you can start exploring it today.
